Karnatak Arts, Science and Commerce College, Bidar is one among the 26 educational institutions being run by Karnataka Rashtriya Education Society Bidar. Established in 1970, the college is one of the prime Institutions of Bidar district. It is the biggest learning hub of Bidar district located at the Northern tip of Karnataka State. Although a number of colleges have come up lately in different parts of the district, yet this institution has been drawing the students from every corner of the state due to its ability to offer a spectrum of courses that are not available in newly established colleges. It attracts the students irrespective of gender, geographical location, social and economic strata.
The enrollment of students in various disciplines is exponential and exhibits a typical example of a multi-disciplinary co-educational institute. It offers conventional, professional and multi-disciplinary add-on courses at UG (four UG courses) and PG (seven PG courses) levels. Besides, the college has been running M.Phil and Ph.D programmes in Kannada and Computer Science. In addition to the curriculum, the college offers skill-based and job oriented courses sponsored by UGC, STP (Spoken Tutorial Project of IIT Mumbai), NPTEL (National Programme for Technology Enhanced Learning, a project of MHRD) and self-financed add-on Certificate/Diploma/Advanced Diploma Courses. The college has exclusive language and MASCOM (Management Secretarial Practice and Commerce) laboratories. The language laboratory facilitates the students in learning communication skills in English and personality development. Meanwhile, MASCOM laboratory is used to train the students in various skills related to finance, investment etc. The programmes and activities of the college are directed towards achieving a higher level of excellence (our vision) in higher education.
The college has a very strong student support service system which involves Sports facilities, NCC, NSS, Placement cell, NET/SET coaching centre, various scholarships (18) schemes. A unique financial assistance scheme i.e., Poor Student Aid Fund (PSAF) is being run by the college. The members of the council, alumni and faculty members are contributing to generate a corpus fund to support needy and deserving students at the risk of dropping out. Karnatak Arts, Science and Commerce College, Bidar was assessed and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore on 16th February 2004 and was awarded, B+ Grade. In its second cycle of accreditation, the college was awarded an “A” Grade with 3.05 CGPA on 21st April 2012. In its third cycle of accreditation, the college was awarded an “A” grade with 3.24 CGPA on 12th September 2017.
Our college has the highest CGPA compared to other colleges (more than 400 colleges) of HKE (Hyderabad Karnataka Region). The college was awarded CPE status in 2006 by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi and it was extended to Phase-II and III in 2010 and 2014 respectively. It is the first and only College with CPE status among the affiliated colleges of Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi. The College is recognized as a Super Centre for running FOSS (Free Open Source Software) programmes of STP, IIT Mumbai and then followed by University (GUK). NPTEL local chapter of IIT Madras was started in October 2015 and it is the first among the conventional and technical colleges of Hyderabad Karnataka area (HKA). The Hyderabad-Karnataka region comprises six districts of Karnataka and is the second-largest arid region in India, which is covered under article 371(J) of the Indian Constitution. Our College recently has been awarded as a Lead College by the Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi for the effective use of MOOCs in teaching and learning. During this academic year 2018-19, UGC has approved Community College (Web Development Technology) as well as two B.Voc., courses namely 1) Food Processing Technology and Renewable Energy. The college has been shortlisted under RUSA 2.0.
