College with Potential for Excellence

KRE Society’s Karnatak Arts, Science and Commerce College (KASCC) in Bidar is more than just a place of learning – it is a unique and distinctive institution with a clear vision and mission. Since its establishment in 1970, the college has become renowned for offering a broad range of programs that are not available in other newly-established colleges, and for delivering high- quality education to over 2000 students from across the state.

College with Potential for Excellence: In recognition of its commitment to excellence in teaching and research, KASCC was awarded the  College with Potential for Excellence Status by the UGC in 2006, and it has been re-accredited with this status three times between 2006 and 2019. This accolade places KASCC as the only college with this distinction in Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi, and the fifth in the entire Karnataka State. KASCC’s success can be attributed to its ability to adapt to current realities and challenges, imparting value-based education, and contributing to nation-building. The college is continuously progressing in academics, research, and infrastructure, and has received significant funding to enhance its physical and academic capabilities. This includes a grant of Rs. 1.5 Cr for the College with Potential for Excellence program and funding for skill-based and job-oriented courses from UGC, STP, NPTEL, and self-financed add-on Certificate/Diploma/Advanced Diploma Courses. The college also established state-of-the-art laboratories for English language, IT skill development, and MASCOM, as well as an excellent student support service system that includes sports facilities, NCC, NSS, placement cell, NET/SET coaching center, and various scholarships schemes (18). It is the only college that has 7 PG Programmes and Two Research Centers in Bidar District.

Skill Based Vocational Programmes: In Kalyan Karnataka Region, ours is the only college providing cutting-edge vocational skill-based programs through its B Voc programmes. These programmes are sponsored by UGC under the National Skill Qualification Development Framework and specialize in Food Processing Technology, Renewable Energy, and Web Development Technology. As the first college in the region to offer certificate, diploma, and advanced diploma courses aligned with industry job roles certified by sector skill councils recognized by industries and government bodies all over India, the college has established two distinct laboratories – the Food Processing Laboratory and the Renewable Energy Laboratory – equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure.

B Voc students are motivated towards entrepreneurship, and as a result, they developed a healthy food product called Raggi Cookies. The success of these programmes helped the college receive additional support to start courses in PMKVY in two job roles, namely A Jam, Jelly, and Ketchup Processing Technician & Domestic Data Entry Operator." The journey of the college did not stop there. Another feather was added to the crown of its legacy when it received the Skilled Manpower Advanced Research and Training Lab (SMART Lab) affiliation from NIELIT (under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)). Now, the  college offers courses in high-tech, in-demand skills such as IoT, VLSI, FPGA Technology, and more.

ICT Enhanced Teaching Learning: To meet the ever-increasing demands of higher education, our college has been an early adopter of ICT in Teaching, Learning, and Research. With a 100 MBPS leased line, the college satisfies the needs of various e-learning operations. Our Learning Management System (LMS) facilitates seamless learning 24×7 in online mode, and our nine computer laboratories are used for teaching various multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary subjects through computers. In addition, we have 24 ICT-enabled classrooms that promote an innovative and interactive teaching-learning process. Our fully automated library facilitates computer-based operations and subscription to e-resources under the INFLIBNET N-List Resources, make it a unique and distinctive feature of our college.

District Green Champion Recognition: Our college’s commitment to green practices, such as utilizing renewable energy through a 45 kV rooftop solar power plant, implementing systematic  degradable and nondegradable waste management, maintaining a vermicomposting unit, practicing rainwater harvesting and efficient water management, as well as nurturing beautiful landscaping, including a vibrant vertical garden in the college corridor, have resulted in our college being recognized as the "District Green Champion" by the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, in the Government of India, in the year 2021.

ICI Ultra Tech Award: Our newly constructed Golden Jubilee Block of the college has been awarded the prestigious ICI Ultra Tech award in the south Karnataka region. This award is a testament to the unique and innovative features of our sustainable building design that is tailored to the climatic conditions of our region. One of the key features of our building is the extensive use of renewable energy sources, which not only helps us reduce our carbon footprint but also makes our building more energy-efficient. In addition, our building design incorporates cross- ventilation to enhance the airflow and reduce the need for air conditioning. We have also incorporated a skin layer around the building to cut down the temperature, thereby reducing the need for cooling systems. Moreover, we have implemented natural lighting and ventilation to reduce our reliance on artificial lighting and promote a healthier and more comfortable learning environment. All of these features have been seamlessly integrated into our building design to make it a sustainable and eco-friendly structure.

In conclusion, our college has the distinction of being recognized for its outstanding achievements in various fields, including vocational skill-based programs, ICT-enhanced teaching and learning, green practices, and sustainable building design. We are proud of our commitment to providing high-quality education and fostering a culture of innovation and sustainability.
